Everyday distances
Below about 3,000 feet, miles stop being a helpful unit — the numbers get small enough that decimals obscure rather than clarify. This is the range where a comparison does more work than a conversion.
A useful anchor: an American football field including end zones is exactly 300 feet, and a typical city block runs around 264 feet. Almost any short distance can be understood as a count of one of those.

Running and walking distances
Runners live at the awkward boundary between two systems. Track events are metric, road races are usually in miles, and elevation profiles almost always come in feet.

Altitudes
Aviation is where the largest feet-to-miles searches come from, because altitude is universally reported in feet and almost nobody has an intuitive sense of what 35,000 feet means vertically.

Why people search for specific numbers
There is a clear pattern in the search data. Very few people look up "how to convert feet to miles". Almost everyone looks up a specific value: 1,000 feet, 5,000 feet, 35,000 feet.
That tells you something. The person asking already has a number in front of them — on a seat-back screen, on a trail marker, on a site plan — and they want to know what it means. They are not learning a conversion; they are checking a figure.

What is not in the chart, and why
Some numbers are deliberately absent. Values below 200 feet are left out because at that distance the mile stops being a useful unit — 50 feet is 0.0095 miles, which is far harder to picture than "about 15 metres".
Values above 100,000 feet are absent too. Past that you are discussing space, and in almost every context the mile gives way to the kilometre or the nautical mile.
And there are no arbitrary numbers in between. The chart is not a list of every possible value — that is impossible — but of the values people actually look for. Everything else is the calculator's job.
Using the chart as a reference
If you use the same few values repeatedly, bookmark the row rather than the page. Every entry has its own anchor, so the link lands on the number you need.

Rounding, and what four decimal places buys you
Every chart value is shown to four decimal places. That resolves a distance to about half a foot over a mile, which is more precision than almost any practical use requires.
Where a value is exact it is shown as exact. 5,280 ft = 1 mile is not 1.0000; it is 1, because the division cancels perfectly. That distinction matters when you quote the figure.
Values with repeating decimals — which is most of them — are truncated for display, not altered. 1,000 ÷ 5,280 is 0.189393…, shown as 0.1894, and the underlying value keeps its full precision if you feed it into something else.
